The Recreation and Facilities Division of Boulder County Parks & Open Space Department has an opening for a full-time Shop, Fleet, and Safety Assistant. The assistant will work closely with the Shop Foreman to keep a 96+ vehicle fleet operational, manage an 11,250 square-foot shop and improve safety across the department. This is a full-time, benefited position. The work schedule is Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 4:00pm and Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm. This position will work at the Ron Stewart Parks & Open Space Building, located at 5201 St Vrain Rd., Longmont, CO 80503. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary: $45,960.00 - $56,124.00 Annually

Examples of Duties- Perform vehicle inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs
- Assist with the pick-up and delivery of vehicles needing service and/or repair
- Order, purchase, and install equipment, wear parts
- Manage, collect, and input vehicle logs
- Inspect and perform minor maintenance on facilities
- Organize, inventory, clean, and restock shop
- Coordinate deliveries and vendors
- Update Safety Data Sheets
- Assist the Safety Committee
- Inspect, repair, and maintain tools and equipment
- Perform safety inspections, write safety reports, and communicate safety messaging
- Train other staff in the proper use of tools and equipment
- Performs related work, as required
- May be reassigned in emergency situations
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well-qualified candidates to fill this position. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience with parts transportation and inventory, to include experience working in an automotive repair facility. Additionally, applicants must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Applicants are encouraged to consider how their skills are transferable to the desired qualifications and the examples below.

Supplemental InformationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of Vehicles, Equipment, and Facilities: Understanding of basic mechanical maintenance such as vehicle fluid changes, changing wiper blades, reading vehicle error codes, ordering correct size components, replacing components (brakes, rotors, fans, etc.), lubricating equipment, driving trailers, operating equipment (skid steers, backhoes, mowers, etc.), replacing light bulbs, and checking motion sensors
- Understanding of Hardware and Power/Hand Tool Maintenance: Proficient skills in changing blades, replacing cords, replacing guards, winterizing equipment, oiling saws, draining air compressors, and knowing different hardware types (i.e. carriage bolt vs. Lag screw or 5” deck screw vs. Timberlok)
- Knowledge of Safety: Good understanding of proper personal protective equipment for a wide range of tasks. Ability to read Safety Data Sheets. Skill in filling out Job Hazard Analysis
- Hazard Analyses or daily Safety Sheets: Basic understanding of managing hazardous materials. Knowledge of OSHA or other safety standards
- Good Communication and Inspection Skills: Ability to perform inspections, track information, enter data and manage data in Microsoft Excel or other programs. Skill in communicating with other staff, vendors, and the public verbally and in written form

- Understanding of Zero Waste: Familiarity with managing material disposal, including recycling, composting, and different types of waste
