Description


Boulder County Parks and Open Spaced (BCPOS) department is seeking to hire a Sign Shop Assistant. Come work for the beautiful park system set in the foothills of Boulder County Colorado! Get the chance to interact with appreciative park users, spot a variety of wildlife at the trailheads, and take in the picturesque mountain views during your workdays. This position is an opportunity to practice your problem-solving skills and work with your hands in an outdoor setting for a community that highly values their parks and open spaces. 
 
This is a full-time, benefited position. This position will work Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm. This position will work out of BCPOS building located at 5201 St. Vrain Rd., Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime). 
 
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
 
Hiring Salary Range: $45,960.00 - $56,124.00 Annually 
Classification Salary Range: $45,960.00 - $66,288.00 Annually 
 
Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: February 27th

Examples of Duties

1. Fabricate and install, inventory, and maintain all county parks signage. 
2. Identifies and prioritizes problems and performs maintenance and repair tasks. This includes the following:

  • Implementation of signage on newly completed recreational projects
  • Conduct sign assessments for effectiveness and maintenance needs
  • Precure all materials needed for daily work
  • Fabrication of sign and signpost
  • Conduct installation of structures including trailhead ID signs and kiosks, as well as warning, regulatory, wayfinding and interpretive signage
  • Maintains sign material inventory, and sign installation tools
  • Prepare and submit required digital daily logs, timesheets, and job site documentation
3. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Responsible for safety of self, others, materials, and equipment and reports all accidents and damage
4. Maintains digital records of work performed, equipment and materials used and performs
5. Responsible for knowing and complying with all Boulder County policies and procedures
6. Performs related work as required
7. May be reassigned in emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, and two years of experience in a full-service sign shop, natural resources, recreation, landscaping field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Additional related education may count towards required experience.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:
  • Candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical
  • Physical ability and willingness to work in adverse weather and field conditions
DRIVER'S LICENSE:
  • Applicants must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record

  • Ability to use all equipment safety. 
  • Demonstrated ability to rely on experience, training, and independent judgment in determining how to plan and execute responsibilities in resourceful and effective ways. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, governmental agencies, and the public. 
  • Effective organizational skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office. 
 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  •  Capable of loading, safely securing and unloading trucks, and equipment independently with materials
  • Operate powered and static hand tools including drill, saw, screwdriver, shovel, tamping bar, level, ¬¬table saw, chop saw, standing drill, etc.
  • Able to operate compact landscape equipment and machinery
  • Inspect, maintain, fuel and stock truck, equipment and vehicles assigned to jobs
  • Maintain a clean shop, yard, equipment, job site and assigned vehicle
  • Capable of organizing and maintaining a digital inventory
  • Exhibit basic math skills, including the ability to read a tape measurer
  • Familiarity of sign software such as Cut Master, FlexiSign, and Omega
  • Proficient in reading maps and sign installation plans and specifications
  • Good oral and written English communication skills with co-workers, venders, contractors, and the public
  • Conduct yourself in a manner promoting a professional atmosphere by being a team player, self-motivated, organized and having a positive attitude
  • Show respect for your workplace and co-workers.
